02818 Native Seeks Seat on State Supreme Court

Long-time East Greenwich resident Robert Corrente sipped coffee as dishes clattered and spoons clinked against ceramic mugs at Jiggers Diner last week.


Rhode Island’s U.S. Attorney isn’t much of a breakfast fan. The waitress didn’t mask her dismay as she walked away with the menu.


“I thought that law would broaden my perspective,” said the soft-spoken lawyer.  “There are a lot of different things that you can do with a law degree.  It turned out to be a good choice.”


Good choice, indeed. Corrente is currently being considered for the Rhode Island Supreme Court. Quite a coup for an English major who didn’t know what he wanted to do after graduating from Dartmouth in 1978.
