Happy 79th Birthday Goddard Park

On this day in 1930, Goddard State Park opened to the public. Since then, the 489 acres of diverse open and forested parkland on the eastern side of Greenwich Cove has played host to thousands of Rhode Islanders.The state’s most popular metropolitan park, according to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management ( www.riparks.com),  it provides “spacious lawns, fields, and forested areas with a variety of trees from all over the world … 62 deciduous, and 19  evergreen varieties … in spite of the extensive damage caused by the 1938 hurricane.”
